Our township board approved indoor marijuana growing in our township. I attended the Ford River Planning and Zoning Board workshops on March 15th. The recommended distance from the lawyer who drew up the rules was 500 feet from the neighbor’s property line. The grower who was present, said that was too far because he had a neighbor closer than that and if they could lower the distance. After “some” discussion they agreed on a 100 feet. Do you feel 100 feet from your property to an indoor grower, is a little close? If you are trying to sell, will anyone want to buy your property?

Will the value of your property go down?

He said he’ll be growing in Ford River and selling it in Escanaba. Is this step one, down the line will they ask “if I grow it here, why can’t I sell it here?”

If you are against indoor growing marijuana in Ford River please attend the township board meeting on April 10, 2023 at 7 p.m. at the township hall. Better yet put it in writing to the township board at: Ford River Township Hall, Attention: Steve Nelson 3845 K Road, Bark River, Michigan 49807

Voice your disappointment in their willingness to allow this in our township and ask, “What are the benefits in having this we are a residential area?” Also, neighbors within 300 feet are to be notified by letter this will be moving in.

I asked if it could be extended to a half a mile and Charles Detiege said that’s too far it would take up too much time to send out those letters. Please attend the meeting or write to the board before April 10th.
