Candidate forum clarification
EDITOR:
The League of Women Voters of Delta County is a non-partisan, volunteer organization that works very hard to bring voter education to our citizens.
Recently we hosted a forum for candidates running for the Escanaba City Council and the Gladstone City Commission. It has been brought to our attention that a candidate has been circulating a statement that he could not participate in our forum because our email invitation to him was not received.
We offer all candidates the opportunity to participate in our online voter guide (Vote411.org) as well as the candidate forum. Our system for sending invitations for both of these options is email. While email is efficient, it is not perfect. Emails can be routed to SPAM folders or not delivered for many reasons. That is why we follow up with phone calls to candidates. In addition, we also texted some candidates. We’re sorry that a four-day delay between the email and the phone call would prevent a local candidate from attending a forum.
Voters who would like to view the forum can access the video from our Facebook page (Delta County League of Women Voters) or our website (lwvdeltacounty.org).
Our League is proud of the voter education work we do as community volunteers. We would love to have anyone interested in voter education join us in this work. Our citizens deserve our best efforts.
