Whatever happened to…

EDITOR:

I have a few questions. I could go to the city council meeting but I will probably get more response here. General public comment is basically someone gets up and is making a point or asking a question and the individual councilmembers are looking at their feet or shuffling paper.

First one: Whatever happened to the House of Ludington re-development? After wrangling over this for a few months and getting a variance for parking, the project was “passed off” to a second developer. A lot of time and money spent and nothing happened.

2 The “Old Bank Building” re-development. The one across from Hereford & Hops, not the other empty bank building. Refresh my memory. They wanted to re do the bank building, plus the now-empty lot behind it(former Montgomery Ward warehouse) and then they were going to take the three houses down. Well, they got two of the three houses taken down.

3 The development where the old jail was. If my memory is correct; a hotel/condo project in a 3 phase project. Phase 1 and 2 were okay with most people Phase 3 was the one most people were concerned about. It was going to to involve the Municipal Dock. People were concerned because of the 3 or 4 days a year that the Municipal Dock gets utilized.

4 Let’s go way back. Ludington Street was going to be dug up and “re-imagined”. The city even paid to have the roadway x-rayed so they knew what was under there, even though it would be dug up anyway. Water, sewer, and electrical was supposed to be redone because it was so old. All of the downtown affected businesses were going to be notified to have rear entrances. What finally happened? The street was re-paved from 10th St. down. It was a “temporary fix”. A decade or 2 ago.

This doesn’t even scratch the surface. Developments between Aldi’s and the street going to Walmart behind Staples old building. Super One was supposed to be a hotel. Part of Meijer being “allowed in” was that there would be a stop light installed at Meijer’s cost. We did get a four-way stop at 3rd Ave. N. and N. 30th.

Maybe these are not a big deal to most of you
