A wake-up call

EDITOR:

The Coronavirus has everyone in an uproar. Apple has scaled back production, Car companies can’t get parts that were being produced in China. Clothing companies are feeling the effects. Pepsi and Coke can’t get some of the ingredients to produce their products. These are just a few.

We used to manufacture things in this country. Now China makes the products and we assemble them. This should be a wake-up call. Watch American Pickers as they dig through garages and attics and find all sorts of things that used to be manufactured in this country. Now, we rely on China and other offshore manufacturers to build the stuff we used to build.

At one time we built a transcontinental railroad system, an interstate highway system and hundreds of skyscrapers. Could we do it today? Could we ramp up and win World War II? Or, would we outsource that to the Chinese or Mexico?

This should be a wake-up call to all of us.
