Let farmers to do what they deem best with land

EDITOR:

It’s a sad situation in Escanaba Township there is the opportunity for positive economic impact for farmers to lease out land sitting idle and give themselves a stable retirement income as most of the owners involved are at or near retirement age, not only that but this is their land and it should not be dictated to them by a small group of people how they are to use their land.

It’s Tuesday, Dec.17, that l’m writing this letter on I was at the township board meeting last night and the core group of people that oppose this project were there and bullied the board into changing a part of the conflict of interest ordinance they adopted. These people will not accept anything that doesn’t go the way they want and will pressure and complain until they get their way.

I have served on the planning commission for the past two years and have been dealing with this and it’s not not right the attacks and harassment we have to deal with monthly. It boils down to a handful of people trying to dictate policy that affects the whole township.

I urge more residents to attend these meetings and let the board know this project shouldn’t be decided by a handful of people and to allow the farmers to do what they deem best with their land.
