Representative Beau LaFave’s recent photos posted on Social Media are being called insensitive and racist according to an article in Michigan Advance. One photo depicts a meme where Governor Gretchen Whitmer murders the state budget. The other shows LaFave posing with thumbs up next to a mannequin with the words “Lost Hunter from Detroit.”

The 906 Dems, an organization of Democratic Party leaders across Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, calls for LaFave to stop embarrassing himself, his constituents and the office he holds.

“If we do not begin to hold our representatives accountable for childish, insensitive and racist posts, comments and actions, our future is bleak” stated a spokesperson. “With so much divisiveness in our country today, these are the sort of actions that as leaders in our great democracy we feel compelled to condemn.”

We stand tall behind State Rep. Cynthia Johnson’s condemnation of this boorish behavior and join her in calling for Representative Beau LaFave’s apology. This is not the sort of attention a true Yooper seeks or condones. Voters: Let your voices be heard in the ballot box on Nov. 3, 2020.
