Student success at Bay College

EDITOR:

I encourage everyone to go to their polling place on Tuesday, Nov. 5, and vote. It is not only our right, but our responsibility to voice our opinions as we decide on issues that will continue to make our community a place that people not only want to visit for its beauty and friendliness, but also a place that encourages people to stay and put down roots. We want to keep our young people and attract others, all who will add to our diversity, our creativity and, most importantly, to our future for a strong, growing community.

Before I was a trustee on Bay College’s board, I was a public school teacher, assistant high school principal and superintendent for more than 40 years. I continue to work in education as a teacher/education consultant and I supervise student teachers placed in the U.P. As a life-long educator, I marvel at the wonderful resources that Bay College offers all of us: an affordable education; flexibility to take classes on-campus or online; expansive scholarship program; academic/STEM/CTE programs; transfer agreements with U.P. and Lower Peninsula colleges and universities; dual enrollment and early middle college opportunities for high school students; certificates and degrees; arts/humanities and sports programs and events that we are all welcome to enjoy; and, most importantly, the incredible personal attention that all students – first-time college students and those returning for a career change or simply to enhance their skills – receive from Bay College staff.

Decisions I made throughout my career were always based on one thing – doing what’s best for kids. Bay College has that same philosophy – student success is their number one priority for all decisions. In my many roles as an educator, I have been privileged to help students apply to and get an education from Bay College. These students have been able to reach their goals through their own hard work and with support from an amazing staff dedicated to Bay’s belief in student success and, thankfully, all in their own backyard.

Thank you for voting on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

Terri T. Mileski, Ed.D.
