Escanaba City Council race

EDITOR:

For some members of the Escanaba City Council, the Nov. 5 election began more than a year ago. Yes. That is how long it has been since one of the three seated council members began recruiting residents to run against the other two incumbent council members. How do I know? Several of the residents that were being recruited are friends of mine. And once the council candidates were announced in August, this same seated council member met with one of the new challengers, in public, for nearly two hours.

When you also consider that the wife of another seated council member is the campaign treasurer for the second new challenger, we residents can only imagine what has motivated them. Is it that the two incumbents are willing to do their own independent thinking? Or, is it because the two incumbents are willing to throw the flag so to speak, and call a conflict of interest when they see one, both inside and outside of the city council chambers?

Please get out and vote on Tuesday, Nov. 5. The future of your city is at stake now more than ever.

Ronald J. Beauchamp
