National Salute to Veteran Patients Week

The week of Feb. 10-16 is designated as National Salute to Veteran Patients Week, and VA facilities across the Nation will be honoring the hospitalized men and women we proudly care for and serve.

The employees and volunteers at the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center and its seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics across the Upper Peninsula and northern Wisconsin salute these men and women who have given more than most to protect and preserve all we hold dear as Americans.

It is also why VA takes time during the week of Valentine’s Day to encourage our community to express affection and respect for those we admire. We encourage our community to send Valentine’s Day cards to our inpatient Veterans, or even come and visit them. Cards can be sent to VA Voluntary Services, Oscar G. Johnson VAMC, 325 East H St, Iron Mountain, MI 49801.

However, the love and appreciation for our Veteran patients does not have to end on Valentine’s Day. I invite anyone in the community who desires to put their appreciation into action to consider becoming a volunteer at our medical center or as a van driver for our Veterans Transportation Network, driving Veterans to and from their appointments at the Iron Mountain VA Medical Center.

If you would like to visit a Veteran or are interested in becoming a VA volunteer, please call our VA Voluntary Service office at (906) 774-3300, extension 32780, or go to
