As part of the League of Women Voters mission to educate voters, we would like to share information on voting for a write-in candidate. A write-in candidate is a candidate in an election whose name does not appear on the ballot, but for whom voters may wish to vote by writing in the person’s name.

If a voter wants to write-in the name of someone who is not on the ballot and have their vote count, they may do so in the space provided on the ballot. Write-in votes will be counted only if that person has filed a declaration of intent to be a write-in candidate as required by law.

To vote for a candidate whose name is not printed on the ballot, go to the party affiliation column of your choice, find the blank space for the race you wish to vote for, write the name of the candidate in the blank space and completely darken the bubble on that line.

The Board of Canvassers will determine what versions of the write-in candidate’s name would count. They will accept anything that is reasonably close – including misspellings. No stickers preprinted with the candidate’s name are allowed.

The League provides a free, non-partisan, online Voter Guide at Vote411.org to assist Delta County voters in making informed decisions in the Primary election. Please vote on Aug. 7! Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
