What happened to the flags on Ludington Street?

EDITOR:

I want to know why the City of Escanaba did not hang American flags in observance of Memorial Day on our main street. Someone needs to answer for this lack of patriotism. There were flags down by the marina. There were flags on Lake Shore Drive where the neighbors got together several years ago and decided they would have flags on that street. If, God forbid, the flags weren’t hung because several people were offended — wrong answer. In this country, although you wouldn’t know it, majority rules. If that was the reason, leave this country and your job. My family had generations who served — not only in the military, but also as police officers. Even if that were not the case, not putting flags up in observance of Memorial Day is wrong. In my neighborhood, many flags are flying and not because of American traditions. Last summer the city kept the American flags flying all summer long. It looked great. This does not look great. The city ignored an American tradition of honoring Americans on this solemn day.
