Thanksgiving is just around the corner. As we prepare, we want to remind all drivers the dangers of impaired driving. Unfortunately, drunk-driving-related crashes spike during the long holiday weekend as millions hit our nation's roads, eager to spend time with family and friends.
In Michigan, there were 13 fatal crashes and 15 fatalities during the 2022 Thanksgiving holiday period. Nationally, during the Thanksgiving holiday period in 2021, 190 people died in alcohol-impaired driving crashes according to NHTSA. More than four times as many drivers involved in fatal crashes were alcohol-impaired during nighttime hours than during the day.
