Douglas Darryl Garvin, age 80, passed away on October 8th , 2026 surrounded by his family whom he loved dearly.
Douglas was born the son of Walter and Angela (Mersnick) Garvin on April 29th, 1946. He graduated from Manistique High School in the Class of 1964 and began working for Lakehead Pipeline shortly afterward. Doug married the love of his life, Jeanne Kay, on August 20th 1966 and they spent the next 60 years together. After retirement, Doug could be found working in his yard, planting the gardens and tending to his fire pit with his very dear friends giving unsolicited advice to the golfers passing by. Doug was an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan, taking particular enjoyment in watching the Green Bay Packers lose – a trait inherited by his children.
Doug is survived by his wife Jeanne Kay (MacGregor) Garvin, daughter Tamara Troyer (Conrad), son Darryl Garvin, grandchildren Tyler Troyer and Dylan Troyer, sister-in-law Janelle and her husband Bob, several nieces and nephews and his dog, "The Best Boy on the Bluff" Ozzie. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Holly, brother Walter, sister-in-law Rosemary, brother-in-law Randy and many friends from over the years.
His absence will leave an empty chair beside the fire barrel, one that no amount of firewood or beer will ever quite fill. Per his wishes there will be no public services.
Memorial contributions in Douglas's name may be directed to the Delta County Animal Shelter in Escanaba or the Eva Burrell Animal Shelter in Manistique.
