BARK RIVER -- Zachary Wayne McCullough, 32, of Bark River, passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at his home. He was a fighter from the beginning. Born with Goldenhar Syndrome and diagnosed at a young age, he faced life's challenges with a strength and determination far beyond his years. Through every obstacle, he continued to show courage, resilience and an incredible will to live. His 32 years may have been too few, but the strength he showed throughout his life will be remembered by all who knew and loved him.
Zachary was born on May 20, 1994 in Grand Rapids, MI, son of Anthony W. McCullough, Sr. and Joan Leslie (Shinnaberry) King. When he was younger, he loved bathtime, throwing his toys around, and being on his swing. He attended the DSISD Learning Center. He was a big brother to everyone and loved car rides and being in water.
Among survivors include his loving mother who was his caregiver, Joan King of Bark River; siblings, Ken Kang, David (Stephanie) King, Valerie King, Rufus McCullough, Tony McCullough, Crystal Therrian, Amanda Therrian, Anthony McCullough, Myron McCullough, and Brianna Malinowsski; several nieces and nephews; and uncle, Hank Shinnaberry.
He was preceded in death by his father, Anthony W. McCullough, Sr.
Services will be on Saturday, September 5, 2026 with visitation beginning at 11 a.m. and traditional native services to follow at noon until 1 p.m. at the Hannahville Community Center. Burial will immediately follow in Hannahville Cemetery.
