FORD RIVER -- Melissa Ann Hemes, age 55, of Ford River passed away Sunday, September 7, 2026, at her home in Ford River. She was born on December 15, 1970, in Escanaba, MI and was the daughter of Robert and Doris (Wall) Stevenson. During high school Melissa worked at Hardee's in Escanaba and graduated from Gladstone High School in 1989. Melissa was employed in packaging and project control at Andex Corporation for over 33 years. The former Melissa Stevenson married Michael Hemes on August 27, 1994, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Escanaba.
Melissa loved spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid Green Bay Packer and University of Michigan fan. Melissa enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, traveling and spending time at their lake house.
Melissa is survived by husband Mike; daughter Mikayla Hemes; son Brad Hemes; sisters Crystal (Tom) DeNatale and Kimberly (Bill) Johnson; brothers Brian Stevenson and Ryan (Patti) Stevenson and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am to 12:00 noon Monday, September 14, 2026 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating the life of Melissa Hemes will be held at 12:00 noon Monday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Stephen Cowen officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the Ludington Room located at the Anderson Funeral Home. Entombment will take place in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery.
