ESCANABA -- Joseph "Joe" E. Grondine, 99, Escanaba, passed away on Sunday September 20, 2026 at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. He was born on January 25, 1927 in Spalding, MI, son of the late Wilfred and Albena (Laurin) Grondine Sr. On July 12, 1969 he married the former Mary "Mary Lou" Beaumier at St. Anne's Parish in Escanaba.
Joe graduated from North Central High School and then proudly served his country from 1945-1947 in the U.S. Army, on the Anti-Tank Co. 349 Infantry 88th Division Italy. He worked for over 41 years as an equipment operator for the Menominee County Road Commission. Joe was a member of St. Anne's Church in Escanaba and St. Francis Xavier in Spalding, Knights of Columbus 3rd and 4th degree and was a life member of the Teamsters Local 328 Retires. Joe enjoyed photography, baking, fishing and watching the Detroit Tigers.
He is survived by his son: Joseph H. Grondine, four grandchildren: Lauren (Colby) Foster, Allison (Chris) DeFelice, Megan (Josh) Monteville and Jack Grondine, four great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, brothers: Wilfred Grondine Jr., Harry Grondine and Henry Grondine, sisters: Therese Palomaki, Lucille LaFave, Marie Bastien and Phyllis.
Friend may call from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday September 28, 2026 at St. Anne's Parish in Escanaba with the Knights of Columbus standing guard. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 p.m. on Monday at church with Fr. Francis DeGroot officiating. Burial will take place in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
