GLADSTONE -- Jerry Lee Witz, age 81, of Gladstone, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Christian Park Healthcare Center in Escanaba.
Jerry was born January 19, 1945, in Baraga, MI, the son of Vivan and Joyce (Kunick) Witz. He was raised in Skanee, MI, and attended school there.
On May 28, 1965, Jerry married the love of his life, Sally A. Hoffer. Together, they shared 61 wonderful years ofmarriage, raising their son, Jeffery, and building a life filled with family, hard work and countless memories.Jerry began his working career in the logging industry before entering the construction field, where he found his calling as a mason and bricklayer. He proudly worked in the trade for more than 30 years while living in Rochester, MI, retiring in 2000. After retirement, Jerry and Sally moved to Gladstone, allowing him to fulfill his dream of returning to the Upper Peninsula he loved so much.
Jerry was a long time member of the local union and had been a member of the International Bricklayers Union for 55 years. He took great pride in his work and was known for his strong work ethic and willingness to lend ahelping hand whenever someone needed him.
When Jerry wasn’t working, he could often be found enjoying the great outdoors. He loved both soft and hard water fishing, deer hunting, and simply spending time outside. Above all, Jerry will be remembered as a hardworking, kindhearted man who was always ready to help others and who cherished his family deeply.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Sally; son, Jeffery (Ellen) Witz of Almont, MI; granddaughter, Camryn Witzof Almont; brothers, Dean (Linda) Witz of Skanee, MI, and Thomas Witz of Marquette, MI; along with several nieces and nephews. Jerry leaves behind a lifetime of memories and the love of his family and friends who will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. A celebration of life picnic will be scheduled for the spring of 2027. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity or plant a tree in his memory.
