GLADSTONE -- Darryl W. Bernett, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 11, 2026 at his home with his family by his side.
Darryl was born on June 16, 1943 in Cicero, Illinois, the son of Raymond and Amy (Watson) Bernett. He was raised in Illinois and later relocated to Gladstone in 2003. Darryl was united in marriage in 1986 to the former Kathy Kayer and together they shared many wonderful years. Darryl was employed for 30 years with the Burlington Northern Railroad where served as both a conductor and a brakeman. His love for trains started when he was 12 years old when he began working on model railroad layouts. In previous years he also enjoyed traveling with his wife.
Darryl is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; brother Derek (Laura) Bernett; sister-in-law Barbara Bernett; as well as several nieces and nephews. Darryl was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Amy, as well as his brother Dean (Barbara) and sister Amanda (Gordon) Becker.
In accordance with his wishes, no funeral services will be held. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Bernett family.
