ESCANABA -- Jon Allen Neisius, 88, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on January 28, 1938, in L’Anse, Michigan, Jon was the son of Albert and Arlene (Singer) Neisius. He grew up in L’Anse, graduating from L’Anse High School in 1956 before attending Northern Michigan University.
In 1957, Jon proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in San Francisco, California. During his service, he was a member of the Marine Corps Drill Team, helping lead the team to consecutive California state championships in 1958 and 1959. Following his honorable discharge in 1959, Jon moved to Ypsilanti, Michigan, where he accepted a position with Trans World Airlines as a transportation agent.
On July 23, 1960, Jon married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, the former Julie Fredrickson, at First Lutheran Church in L’Anse. Together they built a beautiful life, sharing 66 wonderful years of marriage while raising their three children: Jill, Jay, and Josh.
After working for five years at Celotex Corporation in L’Anse, Jon began what would become a distinguished banking career with Commercial National Bank as a teller. While working there, he attended the Northern Michigan University School of Banking, graduating in 1970. In 1974, he joined Northern Michigan Bank in Escanaba as a loan officer, serving for 16 years before continuing his career with First National Bank for five years. Jon later fulfilled his dream of business ownership by purchasing Northern Service Bureau in Escanaba, which he successfully operated until his retirement.
A devoted man of faith, Jon was a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church. He generously shared his time and talents by serving on the church council, including one year as council president, singing in the church choir, and dedicating 25 years to the property committee. His commitment to serving others extended into the community as a member of the Bay Shore Kiwanis Club, where he served as president and played a vital role in fundraising efforts for the YMCA pool project. He also loved music and was a member of the Remnants Barbershop Chorus.
Jon will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, quiet strength, deep faith, and steadfast devotion to his family and community. He touched countless lives through his kindness, leadership, and willingness to serve.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Julie; sons, Jay (Debra) Neisius of Dallas, Texas, and Joshua Neisius of Escanaba; three cherished grandchildren; his sister, Nancy Pearson of Escanaba; his brother, Dave (Jean) Neisius of Dallas, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved daughter, Jill Anne Neisius Collins, who passed away on April 8, 1991.
Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services celebrating Jon’s life will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Lily Brondyke officiating.
U.S. Marine Corp presentation of the United States flag will be at the conclusion of the funeral. A luncheon will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place at Lakeview Cemetery.
