James Martin

RAPID RIVER -- James (Jim) Mark Martin, 72, of Rapid River, formerly of Iron Mountain, Michigan, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2026, while surrounded by his loved ones. He was born on May 14, 1954, in Iron Mountain to the late William and Alice Martin.

Jim found joy in the beauty of the world around him. He loved anything that involved nature and the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing and spending time outside. He had a natural artistic ability and a special talent for gardening.

Jim also had a tremendous love for animals, especially his beloved pets. They were more than animals to him--they were family. His favorite dog, Louie, held a particularly special place in his heart. We can find comfort in knowing that Jim is now reunited with Louie, enjoying their time together once again.

One of Jim's greatest joys was spending time with his family. He cherished the time he shared with his loved ones, especially Pennie, his children, grandchildren, extended family, and pets.

Jim leaves behind his soulmate and love of his life, Pennie Lake of Rapid River; his brother, John (Bobbie) Martin; his daughters, Amy Hanson and Brenda (Dan) Henes; his sons, James (Erin) Martin and Nicholas Martin; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice Martin; his sister, Theresa; and his great-granddaughter, Heavenlei.

A graveside funeral service will be held at Amberg Cemetery on Sunday, August 23, at 2:30 p.m. Burial for his parents, William and Alice Martin, and his sister, Theresa, will also take place, with a luncheon to follow.

Though Jim is no longer with us, his love of nature, his creativity, his kindness toward animals, and, most of all, his love for family will live on. He will be remembered every time a garden blooms, a fish is caught, a beautiful day is spent outdoors, and whenever his loved ones gather together to share his memories.

Rest peacefully, Jim. You will be deeply loved, deeply missed, and never forgotten.
