Richard F. Vietzke
BELLEVUE, WI — Richard “Dick” Frank Vietzke, age 93, formerly of Rapid River and Escanaba passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
He was born in Rapid River, MI on March 5, 1933, to Frank and Bertha (Berg) Vietzke. He was a member of St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba.
Dick graduated from Rapid River High School and subsequently married Lenore (McCarthy) Vietzke on October 26, 1957. Together they raised a family while living at a home on 6th Avenue south in Escanaba. He worked in the woods with his father as a boy, He ran Dick’s Super Service in Rapid River for some time before becoming a parts manager at the Ford dealership in Gladstone. Later he took a parts manager job at Northern Motor Company in Escanaba and went on to become an owner and president of the company until his retirement.
In retirement Dick moved with his wife to a home on the lake at Maywood Shores in Rapid River. He loved hunting, fishing and spending time in his basement wood shop. He was self-taught and became a masterful woodworker producing countless treasured keepsakes for his girls. He later returned to Escanaba with his wife to live in a home on 36th Street. He enjoyed a wood shop in this house as well until he moved to Green Bay, WI to live with his daughter about 3 years ago.
Dick loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed country music and attended many
concerts at the local casino when the headliners would come to town. He loved to take a Sunday drive out in the country and just “look around”. His greatest loves after his beloved wife were his children, grandchildren and great grandchild. He never missed an opportunity to share how proud he was of all of them.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Josie (Vietzke) Bacsik, his daughter, Debra Vietzke, and his beloved wife Lenore (McCarthy) Vietzke.
Surviving are his daughters Carol (Vietzke) Hill and her husband Bert; Mary (Vietzke) Fischer and her husband Willi, and Sandra (Sandy Vietzke) Andrew along with 2 granddaughters, Heidi Hill and Marla (Hill) Evans and husband Gary; and 3 grandsons Nolan Hill, Nicholas (Nick) Andrew and Benjamin (Ben) Andrew and one great grandson Cameron Evans.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kathryn LaFond and Dr. Daniel A Sturgill for their care. Dick thought you were top notch and appreciated your no-nonsense approach. In addition thanks to Unity Hospice, specifically our care team, Melissa, Kathy, Nate, Kourtnie and Kristen. The sanctuary for our thoughts and care you provided were immeasurable.
Family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. A funeral service will be officiated by Fr. Fran DeGroot at 1:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Escanaba. Dick will be laid to rest in the Gardens of Rest Cemetery. A full obituary will be forthcoming. The Skradski Family Funeral Homes of Delta County are assisting the Vietzke family.
