Renee M. Kahl

ESCANABA -- Renee Maria Kahl, 68, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at U.P. Health System-Marquette, surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on October 12, 1957, in Escanaba, Renee was the beloved daughter of Stanley “Babe” and Janet (Dausey) Lofquist. She was raised in Rapid River and graduated from Gladstone High School. On June 21, 1975, she married the love of her life, John Kahl, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Rapid River. Together they built a beautiful life, sharing 51 years of marriage and raising four children.

Renee was a dedicated and hardworking woman throughout her life. She was employed at Northern Michigan Veneer Company in Gladstone, the Citgo gas station in Wells, Gust Asp in Escanaba, and later at the Days Inn.

Family was the center of Renee’s world. She cherished every opportunity to gather with those she loved, especially during Christmas and Halloween, which were her favorite holidays. She found great joy in spending time with her children and grandchildren, creating lasting memories that will be treasured forever. Renee also had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved dogs, cats, and birds. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo and sharing laughter with family and friends.

Renee is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, John Anthony Kahl, Sr.; her daughters, Stacy (Luke) Simon of Escanaba and Chelsea (Matt) Rehahn of Beulah, Michigan; her son, Casey Kahl of Escanaba; her daughter-in-law, Caresse Kahl of Montague, Michigan; six cherished grandchildren, Joey, Kadence, Bryson, Maxwell, Logan, Madison; her sister, Lisa (Colin) Grose of Gladstone; her brother, Mark (Suzie) Clark of Gladstone; sisters-in-law Kim Gylock of Escanaba and Brenda (Bill) Schilz of Vulcan; along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, John Kahl Jr.; her brothers, Teddy and Charlie Lofquist; her beloved granddaughter, Tamara Rowley; and her mother-in-law, Ann Kahl.

Visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. A funeral service celebrating Renee’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m. in the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, with Deacon Mike LaBeau officiating. Burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Renee will be remembered for her warm heart, unwavering love for her family, her joyful holiday spirit, and the kindness she shared with everyone, fortunate enough to know her. Her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
