Harold F. Schermer, 83, of Wells, passed away early Tuesday morning, June 30, 2026 following a brief but courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on March 3, 1943 in Escanaba, son to Walter and Florence (Auger) Schermer. Harold was raised in Schaffer and graduated from Bark River Harris School in 1961.
On April 11, 1964, Harold married Judith M. Anderson at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba. They resided in Escanaba for a brief time before creating their home in Wells. They were blessed with three children and 62 years of marriage.
Harold enjoyed a long and successful career in sales, providing cleaning supplies and restaurant equipment to businesses throughout the area. He took pride in building lasting relationships with his customers and was known for his dedication, integrity, and exceptional service.
He found his greatest joy in the outdoors, especially spending time at the family camp where countless memories were made. Whether he was hunting, fishing, wood working, tinkering in his yard, or sharing one of his many stories, he appreciated life’s simple pleasures. Above all, he cherished the time spent with his family, who were the center of his life.
Harold was a proud and dedicated member of the Lions Club for more than 50 years and was District Governor of the Lions from 2004-2005. Throughout his years of service, he held numerous leadership roles, received many honors and awards, and was deeply committed to serving his community through the organization’s mission.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy of Wells; children, Sue (Dave) Seymour of Escanaba, Bob (Rhonda) Schermer of Gladstone, and Holly (Brian) Flanigan of Denmark, WI; grandchildren, Josh Seymour, Amanda (Casey) Smith, Katie (John) Flanigan, Scott Flanigan, Lydia (Noah) Flanigan, Crystal (Matt) Pelto, Colton (Kourtney) Morris, Ryan (Brandi) Morris, and Brianne Schermer; seven great grandchildren; siblings, Joe (Phyllis) Schermer, Judy Stenfors, Carolann Robinette, Lorraine (Gary) Raether, and Phyllis (Jr.) Lippens; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Fisher.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, July 7th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church with Rev. Joseph Boakye Yiadom officiating. A meal will follow in the church fellowship hall.
