LaVerne Raiche

LaVerne was born on December 26, 1926, in Kingsford, MI, daughter of the late Fred and Sarah (Rouse) Poupore. She graduated from Kingsford High School in 1944, and on June 19, 1948, she married Donald Raiche at the American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford; he preceded her in death on October 2, 1989.

After high school she worked as a telephone operator in Chicago until her marriage. She also worked in the kitchen at Pinecrest Medical Care Facility retiring in 1984. She was a member of American Legion Post 340 Women’s Auxiliary and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hermansville and later at St. Mary’s in Norway. LaVerne enjoyed dancing, sewing, baking, cooking, camping, traveling, playing cards and spending time at the Adoration Chapel. LaVerne also sang in the choir at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hermansville.

LaVerne is survived by her 7 children, Michael (Tamara) Raiche of Marinette, WI, Larry (Helen) Raiche of Iron Mountain, MI, Kathryn Halverson of Australia, Janice Hartwig of Howell, MI, Ken (Kari) Raiche of Marion, IA, Paul Raiche of Norway, MI, and Alan (Donica) Raiche of Smyrna, TN; a sister, Mary Jane Ray of Norway; sister-in-law, Theresa Jasken of Hortonville, WI and 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 4:00 pm – 7:00 pm on Wednesday, June 17th at the Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain with a rosary at 7:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, June 18th at American Martyrs Catholic Church with Fr. Greg Heikkala officiating. Burial will be at the Hermansville Cemetery in Meyer Township.
