Laura Gardner-Bernard

GLADSTONE — Laura A. Gardner-Bernard, 86, of Gladstone, Mich. passed away on June 3, 2026 in Titusville, Fla. where she wintered. Laura was born on May 27, 1940 in Escanaba, Mich. to Nels and Irene (Viau) Bergeon.

She graduated from Holy Name High School. She began her career at Harnischfeger before leaving the workforce to raise her family. She returned to work at Delta Abstract and Title, Delta County Treasurer’s Office before retiring as a Level III Assessor with Delta County Equalization Department in 2006. She loved learning, returning to college later in life to earn an associate’s degree in psychology.

She had many hobbies including sewing, cooking, baking, dancing and attending her grandchildren’s many activities, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family.

Laura was a warm, loving, and compassionate person. She loved to entertain and would often host gatherings with an array of her delicious cooking and baked goods that she poured her heart into preparing it all for the people she loved. She made everyone feel welcome in her home.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Bernard; her siblings, Lorraine St. John, Daniel Bergeon, Gerald Bergeon, Marilyn McKnight, Robert Bergeon, John Bergeon, Edward Bergeon and Mary LaFave; her parents, Nels and Irene Bergeon; and several nieces and nephews.

Laura is survived by her children, Raymond Gardner, Pamela Gardner, and Michael (Jennifer) Gardner; her grandchildren, Michelle (Nathan) Holochwost and Kimberly (Daniel Chirpich) Gardner; her great-grandchildren, Mason and Carson; her siblings Helen Vidmar, Cathy LaFleur; her in-laws, Shan Bergeon and Richard McKnight; her step-children, Sheila (Eric) LaRoue, Wanda (Donald) LeMaster, Jennifer (Kenneth) Johnson, Joan Bernard, and Carl Bernard; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of her life is being planned and will be announced at a later date.
