Albert Feltner
ESCANABA — Albert “Al” Bernard Feltner, 87, of Escanaba, passed away June 1, 2026, at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.
Albert was born May 8, 1939 in Marquette, Michigan to the late Alfred “Bucky” and Christine Feltner. Al left school before graduating to join the labor force. His first positions included working for Bullock Oil Company driving truck and delivering oil to the surrounding area and working for the Cliffs-Dow charcoal briquette factory. He then spent close to 30 years in custodial work for Northern Michigan University from which he retired in 2000 due to his health.
He married the love of his life, Kimberly Turner, in 2011, though the two shared over 35 years of love and memories together. After Al’s retirement, he and Kim moved from Marquette to Escanaba in 2007 to enjoy a slower lifestyle.
In his free time, Al enjoyed thrift shopping for treasures and fun finds, trips to the casino, and going on adventures riding through the woods, especially with his grandkids. Al loved to fish nearly every day in his younger years continuing until his health became problematic. He and Kim lovingly took in two teddy bear dogs which he adored from the Rock animal cruelty rescue case. Al was a true gentleman throughout his life who had a kind word for everyone he met.
Al’s children would like to add what a special dad he was to them:
Growing up our dad was always there for us helping in any way he could. As young kids growing up dad made fun times for us just goofing around in the yard playing kickball and wheelbarrow races, pitching balls and backyard picnics.
We grew up going for rides around “the Island” for ice cream treats and dad laughing as we cheered him on as he “raced” down “Ticklebelly Hill” in Negaunee; drive-in movie nights in the big station wagons, trips to Copper Harbor and Milwaukee Zoo with trips around the U.P. many summers. Teaching us to ride bikes and drive cars. Co-signing first loans, fixing our cars, helping us move; playing with and loving his grandchildren and great grandchildren. These may sound like common things but dad would do each and every one of them with a smile and love in his heart, always there to lend a hand and talk to. Proud of each of us. He will be so very missed as our lives continue without him but with his kind and gentle soul guiding us. Dad had heart problems from a very young age but his heart was full of love for us. Rest in peace dear dad, we love you more than words could possibly say.
Al is survived by his wife, Kim Feltner of Escanaba; children, Linda Davis of Missouri, Albert Feltner Jr. of Iron Mountain, Sandra (Joe) Drozd of Marquette, Julie Feltner of Marquette, Lisa (Stephen) Sobell of Port Huron, and Justin (Mari) Turner of Port Huron; grandchildren, Joseph Davis, Frank Drozd, Christine Cole, Austin Krause, Ethan Hughes, Nolan, Brayden and Kayden Sobell and Jadyn and EmMarie Turner; great-grandchildren, Jackson Feltner, Brayleigh and Cash
Cole, and Apollo Davis; siblings, Clara “Aunt” Feltner of Marquette and Hank DePetro of Negaunee; in addition to many nieces, nephews and cousins.
