Raymond Hansen

Raymond L. Hansen, 81, of Escanaba, entered Eternal life on Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the DJ Jacobetti Center for Veterans in Marquette.

Raymond was born on December 9, 1944 in Escanaba, son to Francis Lawrence and LaVerne Genevieve (Gravelle) Hansen. He attended Escanaba High School then joined the US Army. He enlisted on May 8, 1963 and deployed to Germany after basic training. Raymond earned an Army of Occupation and Armed Forces Expeditionary medals while deployed. He was honorably discharged in April 1965.

On June 21, 1975, Raymond married the former Betsy Gibbs at St. Joseph’s and St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba.

He worked various jobs throughout his life, but Ray was most proud of his country and his time in the service and living his life as a disabled veteran and his comradery with other vets.

Raymond loved all Detroit sports including the Tigers, Red Wings, Wolverines, and Lions. He also enjoyed watching all Eskymo sports and coached a minor league baseball team with his brother, Rich. He loved camping, fishing, and Sting-ray Corvettes.

Ray grew in his love for the Lord and embraced his Catholic faith in the latter years of his life, giving him peace and trust in God.

Among survivors include his children, Todd (Angie) Hansen, Shawn (Lindsay) Hansen, Ryan Hansen, Darryl (Elizabeth) Hansen, Jeffrey (Paola) Hansen, Timothy (Katie) Hansen, and Joseph (Jamie) Hansen; siblings, Francis “Porky” (Nancy) Hansen, Marilyn (Philip) Sarasin, Donald (Susan) Hansen, and Jim (Pam) Hansen; sister-in-law, Kathy Hansen; many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly and cherished, along with nieces, nephews, and friends Jim and Sue Doran.

Along with his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by his daughter, Starlyn Hansen; brother, Richard Hansen; and first wife, Dianne Rupert.

Visitation will take place on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church, 817 S. Lincoln Road, Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Francis DeGroot officiating. At the conclusion of the mass, a meal will be served in the church hall.
