Phyllis Theoret

GLADSTONE — Phyllis Grace Theoret, 94, of Gladstone, passed away early Monday morning, May 18, 2026 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

She was born on September 12, 1931 in Ford River Twp., daughter to Gustaf A. and Grace G. (Lesway) Porath. Phyllis attended Ford River School and then graduated from Escanaba High School.

On May 20, 1950, the former Phyllis Porath married Clarence J. Theoret at Holy Family Church in Flat Rock. He preceded her in death on October 15, 2013.

Phyllis was an avid quilter and crocheter. She enjoyed playing cards, working on puzzles, gardening, and canning. Lovingly referred to as “Baking Grandma”, Phyllis often supplied the kids with all of their goodies and never missed helping out a bake sale. She always supported the grandchildren’s activities whether a band concert or sporting event.

In their retirement years, Clarence and Phyllis enjoyed camping and traveling.

She was an active member of Holy Family Church and a previous choir member. Phyllis was also a Knights of Columbus Auxiliary member.

Among survivors include her children, Annette (Fred) Janofski, Marilyn (Dennis) Pearson, Rev. Glenn Theoret, Nancy (Dave) Gagnon, Daniel (Diane) Theoret, and Steven (Julie) Theoret; grandchildren, Julie Cutshall, Jeffrey Janofski, Kristin Pearson Fuhrhop, Gina Laur, Sara Cederna, Trina Soyk, Jeremy Gagnon, Jessie Leduc, Ryan Theoret, Todd Theoret, Andrea Rollo, Thomas Theoret and Hans Theoret; step grandchildren; great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Paul Theoret and siblings, Robert (Marie) Porath, Leslie (Elma) Porath, Earl (EllaMae) Porath, Jack (Rita) Porath, William (Lorraine) Porath, Donald (Dorothy) Porath, Lawrence (Lou) Porath, James (Laura) Porath, and Glenn Porath.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 22nd from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Church in Gladstone (Flat Rock). The Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. with Rev. Glenn Theoret and Rev. Sabastian Chako concelebrating. A meal will follow in the church hall.

Burial will take place in Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Holy Family Church or the Holy Name Catholic School~ Mose and Leah Theoret Scholarship Foundation.
