Donald Martineau
ECANABA — Donald Keith “Marty” Martineau, age 94, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at the home he shared with his wife, Parma, for 59 years, surrounded by his loving family.
Marty was born on April 18, 1932, in Escanaba, the son of Joseph and Ellen (LaLone) Martineau. He graduated from Escanaba High School in 1950 and proudly served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. On June 18, 1966, he married Parma Smith, and this June would have marked their 60th wedding anniversary. Together they built a wonderful life filled with love, laughter, and countless memories with their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many friends.
Marty worked for the United States Postal Service for 32 years. The last five years of his career were spent serving as Postmaster in Gladstone. After retiring from the Post Office, he continued working several local jobs up until the age of 85, with his last job being at Allo Coolman Funeral Homes. Marty was known for his strong work ethic, dedication, and friendly personality and always took great pride in providing for his family. To family, friends, and many throughout the community, he was known as “Papa Marty” or “Papa Marts.”
An avid athlete and sports fan, Marty loved playing golf and softball and especially looked forward each year to the Coonie Hogan 3-man scramble with his sons, Tony and Timmy. He proudly played softball for the DeGrand Oilers and never missed his Friday mornings at the Escanaba Country Club, where he enjoyed coffee and donuts with his golf buddies before heading out for a round of golf or traveling to another course. For 51 years, Marty could be found at the ice rink watching his sons, grandsons, and great-grandson playing hockey. He was a proud Papa, cheering on all of his children and grandchildren in their sporting events and performing arts activities throughout the years. He remained a devoted fan of the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Tigers throughout the years. Marty was also a life member of the Escanaba Elks #354, a member of AmVets, and the Escanaba Country Club.
