Bonnie Lee Hannemann

Bonnie Lee Hannemann, age 78 of Escanaba, MI passed away peacefully at home with her husband at her side on Tuesday, April 28, 2026.

Bonnie was born on November 3, 1947, in Ontonagon, Michigan to Lewis and Millie Swanson. She was raised in rural Bruce Crossing and attended local schools, graduating from Ewen High School in 1965.

Bonnie moved to Escanaba that summer to find work and take accounting classes at Bay College. That summer she also met Mark. They dated through his college years and married on June 20, 1970, while he was attending Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary near Milwaukee, Wisconsin. For the next three years she worked to help support them and also gave birth to their first child, Elizabeth. In 1973 Mark graduated from the seminary and they moved to Corvallis, Oregon to serve a church there and soon after their second child, Katie, was born. During their time on the west coast the twins, Benjamin and Rebekah, were born.

In 1978 the family moved to Calumet, Michigan to serve a church there and also campus ministry at Michigan Tech in Houghton. In 1985 they moved to Crivitz, Wisconsin to serve two churches there until retiring in 2013.

Bonnie excelled at being a homemaker and pastor’s wife, as well as helping support the family by working in the office of a local nursing home. Her skill as a seamstress also helped the family finances.

Above all, by God’s grace, she trusted in Jesus Christ as and her Savior and Lord which led her to share that faith with her children at home as well as the children of others, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She is survived by her husband, Mark; four children, Elizabeth (Jason) Manger, Katherine (Todd) Schwark, Benjamin Hannemann (Rebecca) and Rebekah (Jamie) Vandermeuse; nine grandchildren, Hannah, Noah, Ava, Kaelyn, Alyssa, Victoria, Henry, Elsa and Lucie; three sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents as well as three sisters, Charlotte, Mary and Ethel.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm Tuesday, May 5, 2026, at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Escanaba. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Paul Doletzky officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Forest Home Cemetery in Crivitz, WI.
