Patricia Anne Hewitt

GLADSTONE – Patricia Anne Hewitt, age 90, of Gladstone, MI entered into eternal life on Tuesday, April 21, 2026 at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

She was born in Hillsdale, Michigan on January 19, 1936, the daughter of Robert and Geraldine (Walker) Sleeper. Pat’s early childhood was spent in Imlay City, Michigan. In 1949 her family moved to Manistique and she graduated from Manistique High School in 1954. She attended Central Michigan University from 1954-56.

On July 28, 1956 Pat married Lee E. Hewitt at the First Baptist Church in Manistique. Lee preceded her in death on September 3, 1998.

She taught kindergarten at Doyle School in Gulliver, Michigan for three years and did substitute teaching in other schools and towns, but her main career was as wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

The Hewitts came to Gladstone in 1971. In 1983, they along with 19 other folks, established the Delta Alano Club, 601 Michigan Avenue in Gladstone, a haven for people recovering from the disease of alcoholism.

Pat was a member of the First Lutheran Church where she participated in the Sewing Circle and brought communion to shut ins. In 2006 she started the “Square Ladies”, an ecumenical group at Bayview Manor, who drew, cut and sewed squares for quilt tips, which were given out locally and throughout the world, through Lutheran World Relief. She made Cursillo in 1981 and met with Prayer Groups weekly until Covid struck. Bridge was her main entertainment and she belonged to the same bridge club since 1972.

Survivors include her daughter, Lee Anne (Thomas) Gilson of Waldo, WI; sons, Douglas of Gladstone and Robert (Sandra) of Escanaba; five grandchildren, Audrey (Chris) Colavecchi of Iron Mountain, Benjamin (Tiffany) and Samuel Hewitt of Gladstone and Andrew (Brigitte) and Alexander (Jordan) Gilson of Wisconsin; eight great-grandchildren, Marlo and Jax Belaire, Porter, Ruby and Vince Hewitt and Aedan, Shaun and Dorothy Gilson; eight nieces and nephews and sixteen great nieces and nephews who she always remembered on their birthdays, many cousins in lower Michigan and a dear friend , Pam Durbin.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Lisa Sleeper and Sharon Duquette, her husband, Lee, two infant sons, John Charles and Timothy Samuel, her granddaughter, Chelsey Jo Hewitt, daughter-in-law, Robin Hewitt.

Visitation will be on Saturday, May 2 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at the First Lutheran Church in Gladstone. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM with Pastor Elisabeth Daniels officiating. A luncheon will follow in the fellowship hall. Burial will be held at the Fairview Cemetery in Manistique.
