Maria Maki
Maria “Mia” Maki, age 64, of Gladstone passed away on April 8, 2026 at the St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Mia was born September 30, 1961 in Escanaba the daughter of Edmund and Bernita (Girard) Waeghe. She was raised in Gladstone and graduated from the Gladstone High School in 1979. She was united in marriage to Joseph Maki on August 7, 1998. Mia was a member of All Saints Catholic Church and loved spending time with family, going to camp, camping, being in the woods, bonfires, cooking and crocheting. She was also deeply inspired by the moon and stargazing.
Mia is survived by her son, James “Jimmer” Maki of Gladstone; siblings, Gloria (Steve) Kohnert , Patty Waeghe and Terry (Regina) Waeghe all of Gladstone; brother and sisters-in-law; mother-in-law, Berta Maki (Sinnaeve) of Gladstone and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, an infant son, Nicholas, her brother, Michael, her parents, her father-in-law, Aino Maki and her nephew, Peter Chouinard.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, April 20 at 11:00 AM at All Saints Catholic Church in Gladstone with Fr. Romeo Cappella officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall. Mia will be laid to rest in the Fernwood Cemetery in Gladstone. A Celebration of Life will be held for her at a future date.
