Henry Hoier

ESCANABA — Henry “Happy Hank” Hoier, age 82, of Escanaba, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, April 21, 2026, with his loving family by his side.

Hank was born on November 3, 1943, in Lacrosse, WI, the son of Ewald and Alice (Eickoff) Hoier.

He attended and graduated from West Salem High School class of 1961. Following high school, Hank served as an airman first class for the United States Airforce in Germany and Key West, FL from 1964 until 1968.

Hank was united in marriage to LeDonna Mason on October 24, 1964. Together they raised their two children. After his time in the service, Hank worked as manager at Less-Time-Foods in Lacrosse, WI, before accepting a job at OSF St. Joseph Lloyd Hospital in Menominee. In 1975, Hank became patient Accounts Manager at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba, where he later became supervisor of Materials Management until his retirement in 2006.

Hank and Donna built their home in 1976 in Escanaba where they resided and raised their family.

Hank enjoyed deer hunting, golfing, playing cards, spending time with family and friends, and watching the Green Bay Packers. Back in the day, Hank was an avid softball player and his love for the game remained throughout his life. Sometimes Hank could even be seen rollerskating through town with a big ole grin. Known to many as “Happy Hank” he will be remembered for his quick wit, contagious smile and generous heart.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Pastor Doletzky as well as North Woods Home Care and Hospice for their compassionate care for Hank.

In addition to his loving wife, LeDonna, Hank is survived by: Children: Jeff Hoier, Sr and Michelle (Jay) Richer; Grandchildren:Jeff Hoier, Jr, Caylan (Brian) Trudell, Christopher Richer, Kyley Hoier and his loving dog, Sadie. And numerous Nieces, Nephews and friends.

In addition to his Parents, Ewald and Alice (Eickoff) Hoier, Hank is preceded in death by: Tyrone and Judy Hoier, Eloda Hoier, Thomas Mason, Sr, and several Brothers-in-law, Donald Ekern, Larry Mason, Thomas Mason, Jr, Terry Mason, Bobby Mason, Rod Lindberg and Rick Hansen.

A military service is scheduled for June 20, 2026 at 11:30 AM at the Escanaba Township Cemetery in Flat Rock. Friends may join on June 20, 2026 from 2:00 until 5:00 PM to celebrate Hank’s life at the Plumbers and Pipefitters Hall at 2601 North 30th Street, Escanaba, MI 49829.
