Nancy Kay DeWees

Nancy Kay DeWees, born to John and Helen (Wise) DeWees on August 26, 1944, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026. 

Nancy is survived by her sister, Carol Hazen, her nephew, Lars Hazen, her grandniece Leilia Hazen, and her cousins, Janet Dobecki, JoAnn Dobecki Shopbell, Walter Jay Wise, and Robert Wise.
She has been lovingly attended during her last years by Erika Meyer and family as well as the attentive staff at Renaissance care facility in New Berne, Wisconsin.

Nancy earned a B.A. degree in education from Western Michigan University and the Master’s Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University. She was a dedicated and capable social worker who provided caring service to many through assignments in various Michigan locations. She retired from a senior management position where she was based in Escanaba, Michigan, and supervised health and human services offices throughout northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula. As a respected community leader, she was active in several organizations and provided leadership for the Rotary Club of Escanaba. She donated generously to causes about which she was passionate.

Nancy loved God, her family, her friends, and her cats. She was a faithful volunteer at Eva Burrell Animal Shelter in Manistique, Michigan. She gave generously of her time working with the cats. She always had a soft heart for all living creatures. She was a loyal Big Sister in the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program. She sang beautifully, played the piano, and enjoyed dining out with friends. She was a member of the Sheboygan Symphony Chorus. Her sweet spirit will be missed.
