James Jacques

GARDEN – James “Wishbone” Jacques, age 87, of Garden, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.

Jim was born February 17, 1939 in Escanaba, the son of John and Rose (LaMarche) Jacques. He served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961 while stationed in Germany. He was a longtime Garden resident and was the owner and operator of Jim’s Auto Salvage for 50 years. He liked to work in the woods and in his garden and especially liked to help those in need. Through his auto salvage business, Jim picked up tons of cars, trucks and scrap metal over the years and became known as “The man who cleaned up Garden without firing a single shot.”

Jim is survived by his siblings, Harold (Sandy), Tony, Joe (Annette), Duane, Connie Jacques, Jeanine (Terry) LaVallie, Donna (Herb) Pomeroy, Darla (Jack) Kirkland, Jacqueline Jacques and Mary (Mike) Baker; 169 nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant grandson John Jacques and a grandson Paul Jacques.

Services are being planned for the Spring and will announced at a later date.

The family is being assisted by the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.
