Gary Francis Tryan

MADISON, Wis. – Gary Francis Tryan, 58, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 28, 2026, at UW Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, surrounded by the deep love and comfort of his family.

Gary was born on June 10, 1967, in Escanaba, Michigan, to Gary and Gail Tryan. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures and was known as a gentle soul with the warmest heart. To Gary, family was everything, and he cherished every moment spent with those he loved.

For nearly three decades, Gary courageously battled an autoimmune disease. In January 2025, he received the profound gift of a double lung transplant–a life-saving surgery that freed him from being tethered to oxygen and gave him a renewed quality of life. Tragically, just seven months later, he was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer. Despite undergoing numerous treatments, Gary never complained or wavered in his faith. He remained steadfast and positive, always more concerned for the well-being of his family and others

than for himself.

Gary was a devoted and loving husband, father, papa, and son. He took great pride in his family and found immense joy in his role as a grandfather. Nothing made him happier than watching his younger grandchildren run and play nearby, while enthusiastically cheering on the older ones in their sports and activities–moments that brought him endless happiness.

He was an avid Green Bay Packers fan and rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on his team. Gary also had a deep love for the outdoors, especially tending to his garden during the summer months, where he felt most at peace.

Gary is survived by his beloved wife, Candy (Williams) Tryan; his sons, Zachary (Kasey) Tryan and Dakota (Olivia) Tryan; and his cherished grandchildren, Kierstynn, Lilly, Waverly, and Arlo. He is also survived by his parents, Gary and Gail Tryan; his brother, David (Tricia) Tryan; along with his sisters- and brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents; his mother- and father-in-law, Marilyn and Louie Williams; and his brother-in-law, Kevin Smith.

Gary will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering strength, and heart of gold by all who knew and loved him. Per Gary’s wishes, there will be no service. A celebration of life is being planned for early this summer.
