David Paul Buckland
ESCANABA — David Paul Buckland, age 82, of Escanaba, passed away Tuesday evening March 3, 2026 at his home. He was born on January 16, 1944, in Escanaba, the son of Carl and Bertha Buckland. David grew up in Cornell, attended Escanaba High School, where he played football and graduated in1962. David also went to college at Northern Michigan University in Marquette and received a Mechanics degree.
The former David Buckland married the former Joan Dawson on March 14, 1964, in Escanaba. Together, the couple shared 57 years of marriage. David and Joan relocated to Flint, MI and lived there for a few years. During this time, he worked for the Lincoln Mercury dealership as a mechanic. In 1969, they moved back to Escanaba. David was employed by a few construction companies such as Hyde Construction and John Buckland Contracting, as a mason until he retired in 2021.
David enjoyed camping, riding on his two tractors, watching the deer in his backyard and coffee clutching with his cousins and brothers. But most of all, he loved spending time with his daughters and many grandchildren.
David Paul Buckland is survived by his children; Brenda Ohman (Robert Martin) of Escanaba, Penny (James) Jensen of Gladstone, Tara (Larry) Jandreau of Champion, and Shannon (Paul) Reynolds of Gladstone; 15 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; brothers, John Buckland (Barbara) of Gladstone and Charles Buckland (Donna) of Gladstone; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie (Dawson) Buckland; siblings, Carol Marcum, Betty Maycunich, Lavern McGeary, Audrie LaChance, James Buckand.
A celebration of David’s life will be held starting at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 21, 2026, at the Northtown Crown Bar. Food and refreshments will be served.
