David Kositzky

LAKE HAVASU CITY, AZ – David (Dave) Kositzky, 79, passed away at his winter home in Lake Havasu City, AZ surrounded by his wife and children and sister-in-law Chris Leonard following a 3 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Dave was ‘one of the good guys’. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and always wanted everyone to have a fair chance in life.

Dave was born on December 17, 1946 to Louis and Fern (Iverson) Kositzky in Escanaba where he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Escanaba High School, class of 1965.

He was united in marriage on June 26, 1971 to Nancy Belanger at St. Patrick’s Church in Escanaba, MI. They enjoyed almost 55 years of marriage together.

Dave excelled in every sport he took up. He was a home run hitter in the Babe Ruth baseball league (his first organized team). He was even scouted by the pros back in the day.

He took up golf when his children were young, excelled and fell in love with the game. He played with the “11 o’clock crew” at ECC and Tuesday men’s league. He loved to practice hitting balls as much as playing a round of golf and could be found at the course nearly every day. He had 3 holes-in-one and a double eagle (3-under-par) on the par 5, 17th hole at the Highland Golf Club where he was a member for 15 years. He was Club Champion at the Highland Golf Club in 1985 and runner-up several times.

He was a member of the Mead Bowling league for many years, with a high game of 298, the Escanaba Country Club for past 35 years, a life-member of the Escanaba Elks and the Escanaba Eagles Club. Dave was a lifelong Detroit Lion supporter.

Dave, Nancy and their kids, with best friends Roy and Sandy Henderson and family spent spring break at Vistana Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Florida for 40 years making many beautiful memories.

Dave and Nancy spent many wonderful years following Cory and all 5 of their grandkids playing hockey. He loved hunting season at “The Palace” cutting wood with his brother-law Tom and at his nephew Steve Kositzky’s “Camp Secret”. He also looked forward to golfing in tournaments with his son and grandsons.

In his later years, Dave loved his Wednesday get togethers with his brother Loren and his Wednesday breakfast with the guys. Dave and Nancy spent their retirement winters with Chris and Tom and many friends in Lake Havasu, AZ. While wintering in Lake Havasu for the last 11 years, he looked forward to playing video poker at the casino, thrifting, hitting balls at the driving range and Happy Hours in Cell Block 2 with his AZ family and friends.

Dave was employed at Mead Paper for 39 years as a welder, retiring in 2005.

Dave is survived by his wife Nancy of almost 55 years, his children, Cory (Bobbi) Kositzky, Kristen (Duane) Bourdeau, granddaughter, Lora (Geoffrey) Muir, grandsons, Cole (Sidney) Kositzky, Zach Bourdeau, Spencer Bourdeau and Gunner Bourdeau, great-granddaughters, Valerie and Palmer Muir and Mabel and Scottie Kositzky.

He is also survived by his brother Loren (Vicki) Kositzky, sisters-in-law Chris Leonard, Roni (Jim) Beaudoin, Marla (Pete) Jazdzyk, and brothers-in-law Brad (Amy Graves) Belanger, Todd Belanger, Bob Vardigan and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Fern Kositzky, his father-in-law Al Belanger, his sister-in-law, Tammy Vardigan and his brothers-in-law, special brother-in- law, Tom Leonard and Rick Belanger.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held in May.
