Betty Luetta Schaner

Betty was born on April 23, 1943, in Wilson, Michigan, to Harvey and Marcella (Olson) Kasbohm. She grew up in a large and lively family alongside nine sisters and two brothers, a childhood filled with hard work, laughter, and strong family bonds that remained important to her throughout her life.

On June 5, 1962, Betty married the love of her life, Larry Schaner. As Larry served in the United States Navy, the couple moved every three to five years, making homes in places such as Hawaii, North Dakota, California, West Virginia, Nevada, and Arizona. During these years Betty devoted herself to raising her family as a proud stay-at-home mother. Eventually, they settled in Kent, Washington, where Larry passed away in 2014. In 2015, Betty returned to Escanaba to be closer to family and her beloved sisters.

She is lovingly survived by her two sons, Gary (Debbie) Schaner and Chris (Gwen) Schaner; one brother; and her sisters Barbara Couillard, Elsie Clark, Kathy Fraley, Dorothy Thombahm, Janice Quinnell; and brothers, Harvey Jr. Kasbohm and Terry O’Dell. Three grandchildren, Josephine, Julean, and Garrette.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and her sisters Myrtle Anderson and Elsie Clark.
