RAPID RIVER – Judith Dawn Pomeroy, of Rapid River, passed away on February 23, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories.

Judith was born on February 28, 1953, alongside her twin brother, Joel, to Oswald and Dawn Hansen. She grew up in a large and loving family where her siblings became her lifelong best friends.

Judy lived a full and meaningful life. She spent her life dedicated to teaching, a career that was truly her passion. She devoted 28 years to the Escanaba School System, where she made a lasting and positive impact on countless students and coworkers.

While teaching was her calling, Judy’s true pride and joy was her family. She married Arlen Pomeroy on June 28, 1975. Together they built a beautiful life and raised two children: Sara (Kris) Duerson and Craig (Kathy) Pomeroy.

Judy’s greatest gift was being a grandmother. She shared a special and deeply cherished bond with her grandchildren: Carson Lagina, Brent (Jesi Dani) Lagina, Luke Lagina, Lauren Adams, Kaden Duerson, Brendan Duerson, Mackenzie Pomeroy, and Astrid Pomeroy. Her love, warmth, and unwavering pride in them will remain a lasting part of their lives.

Judy was a devoted member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River. Her faith was an important part of her life, providing her with strength, comfort, and a deep sense of gratitude. She treasured the friendships and community she found there.

She is survived by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings Bonnie (Ken) Groh, Mark (Jill) Hansen, Joel (Judy) Hansen, Jackie (John Zar) Hansen, sister-in-laws Winnie (Andy) Budkis, Sue Hansen, Sandy (Don) LaForest, Ginny (Larry) Thorsen, many nieces and nephews.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents, baby Alan, brothers Chuck and Kevin Hansen, in-laws Elvera and Floyd Pomeroy, brothers-in-laws Don (Sue) Pomeroy, Dennis (Jean) Pomeroy, and godson Geoff Groh.

Judy will be remembered for her kindness, patience, and the unconditional love she gave so freely. She lived a good life and felt very blessed, and her joy and love will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, on Judy’s 73rd. birthday from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. at Anderson Funeral Home in Gladstone, MI. Funeral services celebrating the life of Judith Pomeroy will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Refuse officiating. A luncheon will be served following the service in the Bay de Noc Room at Anderson Funeral Home. Judy will be laid to rest in the Ogontz Cemetery in the spring.
