Frank William Ross
TRENARY – Frank William Ross, 79, of Trenary, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Christian Park Health Care Center in Escanaba.
Born March 30, 1946, in Munising, Michigan, to Frank and Doris (Whitman) Ross, and they moved to Flint when Frank was at a young age. At just 19 years old, Frank began his career with the CSX Railroad as a “write up man” for the train cars until his retirement. After retirement, he returned to Trenary and lived in the Trenary and Chatham area taking part in all area affairs. He was a very social person and loved to gather with family and friends for coffee. He enjoyed hunting and the outdoors.
Frank’s heart truly belonged on the water. He ran his charter boat company, and was known as Captain Spanky, and the boat was called the Mary Emma, named after his daughter.
Frank married the former Frances Mary Kenworthy and together they raised three children, and she preceded him in death in 2022. On May 16, 1981, Frank married Dorothy Joanne Morea.
Together they built a life filled with love and laughter.
Frank was a kind man who never said not to an adventure. He would try anything once and made friends wherever he went. Frank was known by many names such as Butch, Captain Spanky, and Caboose the Clown. If you met Frank, you remembered him. If you knew him, you loved him.
Frank was a proud Shriner Clown who delighted children with balloon animals and brought joy through his involvement in the Shrine Circus. He was also a dedicated member of the Masonic Lodge. In his community, he was often jokingly known as “The Mayor” because he seemed to know everyone, and everyone knew him.
Frank is survived by his devoted wife, Dorothy Ross; his son, Douglas Jay (Norma Jean) Ross of Burton, Michigan; his daughter, Edna Blower of Flint; his grandson Frank; sisters, Glenda Ross and Carol Wright; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife; he was preceded in death by daughter Mary Emma Ross; brothers, Duane, Darryl, Dennis and James Ross.
Frank loved to have coffee, so next time you have a cup of coffee, please raise your coffee cup in honor of Frank!
A celebration of life celebration will be held at a later date. The Anderson Funeral Home of Escanaba are assisting the Ross Family. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.andersonfuneralhomes.net
