Denis C. Harbath
Denis C. Harbath was born on October 13, 1933, in Escanaba, Michigan. He quietly passed away on February 2, 2026, after dealing with dementia for several years. Denis was 92 years of age. He spent his last few years in Sumter, South Carolina at The Gardens of Sumter, Assisted Living &
Memory Care.
After 2 years in college, he joined the US Army for 4 years. After the Army, he worked for the Lutheran Brotherhood in Escanaba, Michigan.
After the passing of his father, Irvin Harbath, he spent much of his life caring for his mother, Helen Harbath. Denis and his mother would spend the winter months in Sumter, SC where his brother, Gary Harbath, lived. After the passing of his mother, he moved to Munising, Michigan to work as a manager for a nursing home.
Denis loved going to church and singing in the choir as well as giving several sermons to the congregation. He had a passion for nature and would take long walks in the woods as well as fishing and hunting. Denis was a master at playing bridge. He also loved playing chess with his great nephew, Jay Laverdiere. He loved spending time with his family the most.
Preceded in death by his grandparents Carl and Maria Harbath and Irvin and Leona Lamar. Parents Irvin and; Helen Harbath. Brother Gary Joseph Harbath and niece Kim Harbath Romuld.
Survived by his sister-in-law, Barbara M. Harbath; Nephews, Karl Harbath; Kevin Harbath and his wife Tammy Harbath; Niece, Karen H. Laverdiere and her husband Jim Laverdiere. Several great nieces and nephews: Cory Harbath and Gavin Harbath, Josie Mooneyham and her spouse Boodie Mooneyham; Ronald Delbeni & Jay Laverdiere and his wife Erika Laverdiere. Great-great Nieces: Chelsie Logan and Lucy Laverdiere; Great-great Nephews: Christopher DelBeni, Garrett DelBeni and Leo Laverdiere and a great-great-great Niece which he did’t get to meet Lyra Rose.
Military Honors for Denis Harbath will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2025 at Lakeview Cemetery in Escanaba by the Delta County Veterans Council. Burial will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery.
