JACKSON, Mich. — Glenna Jane Volk, age 86, of Jackson, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026, in Jackson, MI.
Jane was born on April 7, 1939, in Goodwin, OH, to Eugene Gary and Catherine Welsh. She grew up on a farm in Cecil, OH, and attended OSU upon graduating from Paulding High School. After marrying Robert Volk in 1958, she moved to Jackson, MI, where she earned her Bachelor’s from Spring Arbor University and a Master’s from Eastern Michigan University.
Jane retired from Hanover-Horton Elementary after more than 30 years of teaching. Jane was also a dedicated member and leader within the Unitarian Universalist Church located at Clarklake, MI. She held several prominent roles on the Board and served as Chair of the Caring Committee and was an active contributor to the Worship, Membership and Outreach committees. Beyond her church work, she was a vocal advocate for voting rights and social justice, notably speaking out against social inequality and rights to clean water.
She and Bob enjoyed their farm, “Lazy Acres,” in Horton, as well as time spent on the water at their Clarklake home and their property in Cedar River on Lake Michigan in the UP. She was also an avid reader and a sports fan. Jane was widely appreciated for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Bob; and is survived by her daughter, Vicki (Dennis) McGaffigan; her son, Gary (Debbie) Volk; five grandchildren, Andrew (Kate), Kristen, and Jessica (fiancé Drew) Volk; Robert and Michael McGaffigan; three great-grandchildren, George, Florence, and Gloria; and her beloved cats, Charlie and Ollie.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Delta Animal Shelter, in Glenna’ honor. In accordance with Jane’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of life ceremony will be held at a future date.
