DAGGETT – GILBERT O. ANDERSON, 77 of Daggett, MI passed away on Wednesday January 7, 2026 at Aurora Medical Center-Bay Area with his family by his side. Gilbert was born on January 27, 1948 in Marinette, WI to Axel and Eleanor (Peterson) Anderson He was a 1966 graduate of Stephenson High School. Gilbert attended Michigan State University and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Social Work in 1970. Gilbert worked at the Kentucky State Penitentiary in Eddyville, KY as a classification and treatment officer and served as CTO supervisor from 1978-1989. Upon moving back to Michigan, Gilbert began working for the Michigan Department of Human Services as a children’s services worker from 1989 until retiring in 2010. Gilbert loved to help others, corvettes and attending car shows. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, but most of all, Gilbert loved being a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Spending time with his family is what he loved best. Gilbert was a member of the Ford River Chapel in Ford River, MI where he served as an elder and chairman for many years.
Survivors include his wife: Connie; 4 children: Michelle (Shane Johnson) Shampo, Aimee Carivou, Jennifer Jolly and Angela (Avery) Allison; 14 grandchildren: Brady, Cheyenne, Brian, Mollie, Cody, Daelynn, Daunte, Brezlin, Isaiah, Maddison, Avianna, Alivia, Adrian and Daxton; 4 great grandchildren: Amia, Leila, Brielle and Izan; 5 brothers: Gladwin (Dallis) Anderson, Sheldon (Patty) Anderson, Kenny (Michelle) Anderson, David (Shanna) Anderson and Jason (Heather) Anderson; 1 sister: Beth Davis; along with numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents: Axel and Eleanor; brother: Harland; and sisters: Hulda Anderson and Sheila Cruse.
Visitation for Gilbert will be held at the Ford River Chapel in Ford River on Monday, January 12, 2026 from 12:00 noon CST until time of Funeral Service at 2:00 pm CST with Pastor Jay Gilchrist officiating. Burial will be in Mellen Township Cemetery in the spring. Anderson Diehm Funeral Home is assisting the Anderson family with arrangements
