Annette L. Vanlerberghe

ESCANABA – Annette L. Vanlerberghe, a lifelong resident of Escanaba, Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 11, 2026, at the age of 69. Born on October 5, 1956, Annette spent her entire life in the community she loved, surrounded by familiar places and people who cherished her.

Throughout her life, Annette faced significant special needs and personal challenges, meeting each one with quiet courage and a resilient spirit. Her strength was evident not in grand gestures, but in the steady, determined way she moved through the world. Those who knew her saw a woman whose life, though marked by obstacles, was also filled with dignity, perseverance, and a gentle presence that touched many.

Annette is survived by her five siblings: Paulette (Jeffrey) Clee, Claudette (Dennis) Allingham, Gary Vanlerberghe, Genette (Joe) Dehlin, and Joanette (Bill) Weese with whom she shared a lifetime of memories, laughter, and deep Family bonds. She also leaves behind her beloved cat, “Lucky” who brought her comfort and companionship.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Larry and Geraldine Vanlerberghe.

Annette enjoyed the “mix and mingle” dances, especially the Prom. She participated in the Special Olympics Bowling Team. She served as an alternate Chair for Friends of DATA bus, as well as an alternate steward for Delta County Regional Inclusive Community Coalition (RICC). She volunteered at the Salvation Army and was the “Queen” of recycling for Lakestate Industries. Annette was a member of the Pathways Consumer Advisory Team for over ten years. She had the distinction of being named “Top Gun” by the Wheelin’ Sportsman Program for shooting the biggest turkey.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026 from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm at Skradski Funeral Home, 118 South 12th Street, Escanaba, MI. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 3:30pm at St. Joseph & St. Patrick Catholic Church with Rev. Tim Ferguson officiating. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery on Monday.

Annette was a proud and devoted aunt and great-aunt with a remarkable gift for making each person feel remembered and cherished – never forgetting a milestone or an opportunity to let someone know that they were loved.

Annette’s family and caregivers were devoted to her well-being, and she, in turn, brought them moments of joy, tenderness, and perspective that will be remembered always. Her life was a reminder of the profound value of patience, compassion, and unconditional love.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
