Joseph Paul Garlow

Joe was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, on November 6, 1962, the son of John Garlow and Catherine ‘Kay’ (Garlow) Behnke. He was the youngest of six children.

During Joe’s childhood, the family moved to Charlotte, MI, before permanently relocating to the Upper Peninsula, which, in his heart, he always considered home.

Joe attended Gladstone High School and graduated in 1980. He completed a plumbing apprenticeship with his stepfather, William “Bill” Behnke, leading to a journeyman’s and then master’s plumbing licenses. Joe loved what he did and was an exceptionally good tradesman, but what he loved and was proud of the most was his four daughters.

Over the years, he relocated to Fowlerville, MI, where he enjoyed walks and spending time outside with his dog, Buddy.

Joe is survived by four daughters, Jennifer Garlow, Stacy (Gary) Clark, Amanda Garlow, and Amy (Tyler) Teal; siblings David Garlow, Timothy Garlow, John Garlow II, and Mary Beth Hartline; nieces, nephews, and seven grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Garlow; mother, Catherine Behnke; stepfather, William Behnke; and sister, Rachael Porter.

Respecting Joe’s wishes, no funeral services will be held. Tributes and donations on his behalf may be sent to The Gladstone Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund that raises money for local charities.
