ESCANABA — Guy Willard Sawyer, age 82, of Escanaba passed away Saturday, December 13, 2025 at his home in Escanaba. He was born June 27, 1943 in Atlanta, GA and was the son of Guy Waldo and Eleanore (Birch) Sawyer. Guy graduated from high school in 1962 and then attended college for one year. He then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving six years in Italy, six years in Greece, six years in Japan and the last three years of his 21-year career state side. Guy worked for the Civil Service in Ohio until his retirement.

On March 30, 2017 Guy married the former Joyce Trombley, barefoot in the Atlantic Ocean in Flager Beach, FL. Together they enjoyed golfing in couple’s tournaments, camping, traveling and riding their bicycles with their dogs in their baskets. They wintered in Florida for twelve years and during that time they enjoyed playing card games and going on excursions and golfing with their friends. Guy was an avid coin and stamp collector and loved going to car shows. He completely restored a 1970 GTO Judge that was the pride of his life and he won many trophies with his GTO. Dogs were very important to him especially Woofie, Socks, Tippytoes, and Tucker.

Guy is survived by his wife Joyce, daughters Michelle Sawyer of Greece and Dominique Sawyer of Mexico; grandchildren Gregory Sawyer, Robert Bruce Burns, Mylos Poseidon Perez Sawyer and Helios Oceanus Perez Sawyer; sister Patricia DeGrave of Palm Coast, FL and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandson Guy William Burns; brother Edward Sawyer and brother-in-law Gary DeGrave.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. Thursday, December 18, 2025 at the Anderson Funeral Home in Escanaba. Delta County Veteran’s services, being assisted by the U.S. Air Force, will be conducted at 1:45 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services celebrating the life of Guy Sawyer will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday at the Anderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Erin Totten-Jones officiating. A luncheon will be served following the services in the Ludington Room located at the Anderson Funeral Home. Burial will take place in the Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA.
