Edwin John Caswell
Edwin John Caswell
Edwin John Caswell, age 78, of Brampton passed away on Thursday, December 26, 2025 at the Christian Park Village in Escanaba.
Ed was born December 28, 1946 in Escanaba, the son of Albert and Lena (Johnson) Caswell. He graduated from Gladstone High School in 1965. Ed was united in marriage to Vicki Johnson on July 23, 1977 in Gladstone. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River and worked as a heavy equipment operator for New Page.
A man of quiet skill and steady hands, Ed found deep satisfaction in building things meant to last. Whether crafting fine furniture, working on woodworking projects, or building a camp where family and friends could gather, he took pride in creating with care and purpose. He carried that same patience into growing his garden, tending it faithfully and enjoying the rewards of the soil and seasons.
An avid outdoorsman, Ed loved hunting deer and partridge, finding peace in the woods and respect for the traditions passed down through generations. He also delighted in the simpler moments outdoors-feeding and watching birds, learning their habits, and enjoying their quiet company.
At home, he was happiest in the kitchen, where cooking and baking were acts of love, time that was shared many times with his wife, Vicki. Many family memories were made around meals he prepared, often shared with laughter and stories. His devotion to family was constant; time spent together was what he valued most.
Ed leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, kindness, and a life well lived-measured not by words, but by the things he built, the meals he shared, the land he respected, and the family he cherished.
He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Ed is survived by his wife, Vicki; son, Casey Caswell of Kentwood, MI, daughter, Kelly (Kyle) Nelson of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren, Nick (Michael) Velon and Jenna (Henry) Hollow; great granddaughter, Audrey Hollow; sister, Suzanne Laraby and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Gary, Alden and Allen Caswell.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 2 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River. Funeral services will be at 4:00 PM with a luncheon to follow in the fellowship hall. Ed will be laid to rest in the Rapid River Cemetery.
