MESA, Ariz. — Joseph Robert Selinger, age 90 of Mesa, AZ passed away Tuesday, November 11, 2025 at home.

He was born in Dilke Saskatchewan, Canada. The son of Albert and Margaret Selinger.

Joe attended Balfour Technical School in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. He also attended Michigan State University where he played hockey alongside Canadians: Butch Miller and Glenn MacDonald, and coached by Amo Bessone. These four were immortalized on the walls of Michigan State University Arena. Joe received Michigan State University WCHA All-Star 1958; NCAA All-Tournament Selection 1959; First Team All-American 1959; Team MVP 1958,1959. After leaving Michigan State he played for the Minneapolis Millers/Denver Mavericks (a minor league professional hockey team.)

Joe was employed by US Forest/ Weyerhaeuser Corp in Pennsylvania, Washington and Ontario, Canada. While living in L’Anse, he joined Mead paper as a District Forester. Moving to Escanaba, Michigan, he worked in the Woodlands Department as Assistant Wood Procurement Manager.

Joe had a passion for golf. “Hitting the Links” was his favorite pastime, and he never missed an opportunity to play.

After his retirement, Joe and Carol moved to Mesa, Arizona.

Joe is survived by his wife Carol, sons, Jeff (Beth) Selinger of Soldotna, AK and Bryan (Thongsri) Selinger of Hope Mills, N.C.; daughter, Diane Selinger of Engadine, MI; brother, Ernest Selinger of Christchurch, New Zealand. Five grandchildren, Jenna Miron, Max Miron, Jake Riley, Jessica Selinger, and Zackary Selinger. Two great grandchildren, Gunnar Miron, Christen Riley.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Glenn Selinger.

A Rosary and Mass will be held on November 28th, 2025, located at St. George’s Catholic Church, 300 E 16th Avenue, Apache Junction, AZ 85119. The Rosary will begin at 10:30 am and Mass Service at 11:00 am. There will be a luncheon at Joe and Carol’s residence following the Mass.

A burial will take place at Holy Cross Cemetery in Escanaba, MI at a later date. At the request of the family, memorials can be sent to : Holy Cross Hospice, 1103 S. Mesa Dr. Mesa, AZ 85210
