John J. Quinn
GLADSTONE — John J. Quinn, age 81, of Gladstone, passed away on November 14, 2025 in Gladstone.
John was born on March 3, 1944, in Bronx, New York, the son of Alexander and Katherine (Cooley) Quinn. He spent his early childhood in Robinson, Illinois and moved back to Narrowsburg, New York and graduated from Narrowsburg High School in 1962. He was a star athlete, lettering in both basketball and soccer.
After graduation, John enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at K.I. Sawyer Air Force Base in Marquette. John was married to Joyce Honkonen of Gladstone from 1964 to 1994 and had two sons John and James. After an honorable discharge from the military in 1966 he worked for Cleveland Cliffs in Negaunee until 1968 when they moved back to Port Jervis, New York where he worked as a Super Market Manager until 1970. They returned to Escanaba and John worked at Elmers Super Value until he was picked up at Mead Paper in 1974. He worked in many different areas at Mead and finished out his career as a First Class Pipe fitter when he retired in 2004.
John loved fishing, hunting, bowling, and golf. He was a big fan of the Green Bay Packers and was a proud owner of the team. John was a proud member of the Gladstone Yacht Club and served as the Commodore for one term.
John is survived by sons: John (Kim) Quinn of Wellington, OH and James (Jodey) Quinn of Rapid River, brother: Patrick (Janet) Quinn of McMinnville, OR and 6 granddaughters: Emma Leigh Quinn of Albuquerque, NM, Samantha, Olivia and Ivy Quinn of Rapid River, Kaitlynn Steegers (Quinn) of Columbus, OH and Jessica Harper (Quinn) of Germantown, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by brother, Albert Quinn and sister, Margaret Martin.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 22, 2025 from noon until 2:00 PM at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.
